Early Post-Op Days

This update is a little overdue. The days have been busy here.

I had an unusually smooth time in hospital for my SDR surgery. While most adults speak often of nausea, vomiting, dizziness and headaches from spinal fluid loss during surgery -- I was blessed to not encounter any of that. That's not to say my stay was easy -- (the muscle spasms in my back continue to be no joke!) but it was far better than I had anticipated.

Oh how the tables turned once I was discharged on Wednesday, though. A mix-up with a high-dose antibiotic left me a mess for the last 3 days. The nausea, dizziness and vomiting did indeed visit me these last 2 days and it's been ROUGH. The muscle spasms I have been warned of in my legs, showed up with an impressive intensity, too. My first 2 out patient PT sessions with Jessica and Jolyn were great - these ladies are truly incredible....but the sessions left me with muscle soreness like I've never, ever experienced -- which was surprising since, to me at least, it seemed like we hardly "worked out" at all. Yet, I was so exhausted that I vomited on my way out of the therapy centre, and then came home to have a 7-hour nap! Whoa.

I am so, so, so thankful to have had my Aunt here to help me through these rocky moments. ❤️

These muscles that are now free from spasticity (calves, glutes, hips, core) are literally learning to work and fire and move and bear weight for the first time, EVER. It's exciting to feel all of these changes....but I will say too though, that my entire lower body feels like it's been run over by a truck a few times! LOL.

Despite the rough patches, it is still such a blessing to be spasticity-free. The joint pain in my feet that pushed me to the breaking point of losing my mobility prior to surgery is now completely gone, and although super sore, the muscles in my legs feel free and amazing.

SDR isn't easy ---but it's absolutely worth it and I would go through this all over again in a heartbeat if I could.

Continued thanks to everyone for your love, encouragement, kind words, messages and texts. I am super far behind in responding but please know I read every one -- it lifts my spirits, and makes these early hard days that much brighter!!
